CALIFORNIA TRIPLE CROWN AWARDS BREAKFAST ANNOUNCED

The California Triple Crown Awards Breakfast will be held on Sunday September 24, 2023 from 7:30 A.M. to about 10:00 A.M. In order to attend, you need to reserve your seat in advance for the Awards Breakfast. You can find out all about it, reserve your seat and see who has registered at www.CalTripleCrown.com/Awards

The Breakfast will be held indoors at a new location this year, the Back Bay Conference Center in Irvine. It is just one mile from the Start / Finish of the Beach City Double from the day before. Please wear your favorite California Triple Crown Jersey or Double Century Event Jersey and stay to the end to be in the photos and congratulate the Hall of Famers.

Be sure to come and recognize those who will be inducted into the California Triple Crown Hall of Fame this year!! The California Triple Crown Hall of Fame was started in June of 1999 to recognize those who have accomplished a significant milestone in the Double Century Series by riding over 10,000 Miles or over 50 Double Centuries!! There will be special awards given to those riders who complete 100, 150, and 200 Double Centuries as well. There will be some surprises that you won't want to miss. Because of the COVID pandemic, we couldn't safely have an Awards Breakfast in 2020 or 2021 so we have some catching up to do which we'll do this year and next.

If you're already in the Hall of Fame, please attend this Breakfast so you can welcome the new Hall of Famers into this elite group.

We will also recognize cyclists who completed their first Double Century in 2023 or their first California Triple Crown Completion in 2023 with complimentary California Triple Crown Water Bottles so please join us at the Awards Breakfast!!

The Prestigious Gold Thousand Mile Club Jersey

The Gold Thousand Mile Club Jersey is only available to those cyclists who complete Five Double Centuries or 1,000 Miles of Double Centuries in One Year PLUS volunteer to support at least one of them. These rides can only continue if volunteers (spelled Y-O-U) jump in and help. Support means that you and/or a family member or friend volunteered to help with a California Triple Crown Double Century. It's not enough to just ride the rides because if that's all everyone does, these major adventures will go the way of the dinosaurs!! It's not easy running Rest Stops 200+ Miles from nowhere so each of these rides need YOUR help. Besides that, it's fun to help out your fellow cyclists and get a chance to talk to some really great people. Active Double Century riders cannot donate their volunteer days to other riders.
********************

In 1987, Lon Haldeman and Pete Penseyres rode Across America from Huntington Beach, California to Atlantic City, New Jersey, on a Tandem in 7 Days and 14 Hours.
Their record is still the fastest non-stop crossing of the United States by bicycle!!

On the last day, Pete was interviewed while riding on the back of the tandem:
"The important point is to set a goal just beyond your reach.
So if you do meet it, you'll feel really good about the fact that you did your best, considering the circumstances.
As opposed to just like cruising in and then two days later, you start thinking back, Gee we could have done better. There won't be any of that.
We won't have any regrets about how hard we rode. And whether we made it.
We''ve done the best we could the whole way.
And we're going to feel great tonight!!"

We look forward to seeing and riding with everyone on the Double Centuries in 2023!!
